1960’s Vintage ‘Portmeirion Pottery’ ‘Totem’ coffee/tea set with Extras, 23 pieces, 1 x 13″ coffee pot with lid, 1 x 4″ milk jug, 1 x 2.2.5″ sugar bowl, 4 x 3.3″ tall coffee cups and 1 x 5″ saucer, 5 x 2.5″ tea cup with 4 x 5.5″ saucer and 5 x 7″ side plates, The daughter of Sir Clough Williams-Ellis (creator of the Welsh Italianate village and setting for ITV’s iconic series ‘The Prisoner’) Susan Williams-Ellis, brought new ideas to the world of ceramics, founding her own pottery in January 1960 and supplying the Portmeirion Village gift shop, her most successful design from the sixties, Totem, introduced in 1963, combined a modern shape with patterns rooted in ancient cultures, this set in the gorgeous amber colour bears the maker’s mark “Totem by Susan Williams-Ellis. Portmeirion Pottery Stoke on Trent. Made in England”, great condition, but does have a few small faults, the coffee pot has 2 small flecks around the base/underneath but look like they have been made smooth, so no actual chip, 1 x coffee cup has a very small chip on the rim underneath, 1 x tea cup has a small fault in the glaze on the bottom edge, also has some age related crazing as they all do, see photos, hence price
